July 13, 2019 (Sat) – Ride Day Volunteer Positions:
*”Bus Boss” Bus Loading Check-in & Rider Briefing
Kaka‘ako Waterfront Park –> YMCA Camp Erdman: 5:15-6:30am
Ala Pu‘umalu Community Park –> YMCA Camp Erdman: 5:30-6:30am

Ala Pu‘umalu Community Park –> Pōkaʻī Bay Beach Park: July 13 (Sat), 8:45-9:45am
*Volunteer must be riding on the bus! Since this event is a point-to-point ride with 3 different Start Locations (so you can choose the distance you feel comfortable with!) we will have different bus options (for $5) to help get riders to their selected Ride Start Locations. Roberts Hawaii will be showing their aloha and providing school buses to load riders and their bikes on. The “Bus Boss” will be given a rider check-in for their bus to check bus-riders in, as well as some points to read to your fellow ride participants during the bus ride over.
Ka‘ena Point Rider Assist
@Ka‘ena Point, 7:45-9am
Going through Ka‘ena Point is an off-road adventure! Help your fellow riders by being stationed along Ka‘ena Point to assist in the tricky spots and make sure riders get through safely.
Friendship Ride Leaders
July 13 (Sat), throughout your ride
Show your aloha by riding in Zach’s Ride and being a Friendship Ride Leader. Those that have some minor bike maintenance (can help with flat fixing) and are willing to stop and help someone in need will get a special Zach’s Ride Bib and a small mahalo gift. Friendship Ride Leaders should know the course and are encouraged to carry with them basic flat fixing tools (hand pump, patch kit, & tire levers; optional: 15mm wrench, other tools).
Ride Sweeper
YMCA Camp Erdman –> Keawaula Beach (“Yokohama Bay”): 7:45-9:45am
Keawaula Beach (“Yokohama Bay”) –> Pōkaʻī Bay Beach Park: 9:30-11:15am
Pōkaʻī Bay Beach Park –> Kamokila Community Park: 10:45am-12:30pm
Kamokila Community Park –> Asing Community Park: 12:15-1:30pm
Asing Community Park –> Neal Blaisdell Park: 1:15-2:45pm
Neal Blaisdell Park –> Ala Pu‘umalu Community Park: 2:15-4pm
These riders are super heroes! They are strong riders who will bike behind the last rider. Zach’s Ride is about safety, but it’s also a lot about showing aloha. You can do so by taking up a leg of the ride as a Ride Sweeper! No one gets left behind (encourage them onward, or help call Command to pick up a rider who cannot make it to the next Ride Start Location in time). Ride Sweepers should know the course well, when the Aid Stations are set to close, have some mechanical skills, and carry with them basic bike tools (required: hand pump, patch kit, & tire levers, optional: 15mm wrench, other tools). If you take on this important role expect to get lot of respect & gratitude from other riders, and a mahalo gift from HBL to you!

RIDE COMMAND
July 13 (Sat), 7:30am-5pm
Ensure the event goes smoothly! Hang out with the HBL Team and take on a very important volunteer position by helping out answering calls that come into the Command Line. You will pass those messages along to the correct person (whether it’s getting a SAG vehicle to pick up a rider, or get mechanical help to a participant) so that if there are any issues on the course they will be addressed and taken care of, no problem!
Directional Sign Deployment
@Along the course. July 13 (Sat), 11:30am-4pm
Help drop off event course signage along the route. HBL Event Director will go over the exact placement of the signs ahead of time to ensure that all the riders stay on course!
*SAG – Rider Transport
@Roving on the course, July 13 (Sat), 8:30am-4pm
*Volunteer must have a vehicle that can carry at least 2 riders & 2 bikes (and a valid Driver’s License). The idea of this event is that everyone rides together and goes from one Start Location to the next, as the Aid Stations move with the event. If there are riders that are holding a pace that will not get them to the next Start Location before it closes, they are encouraged to get transport (if they want to finish the ride).
*SAG – Ride Sweeper
@Start at Keawaula Beach (“Yokohama Bay”) –> Ala Pu‘umalu Community Park, July 13 (Sat), 8:30am-4pm
Help “sweep” the course of riders if they fall behind by picking riders up and their bike, and taking them to the next Start Location. *Volunteer must have a vehicle that can carry at least 2 riders & 2 bikes (and a valid Driver’s License)
