Let’s Make 3 Feet the Law
*SB2529 and HB2215 both passed their respective Transportation Committees on 2/7/18. Next the bills have to go to their respective Judiciary Committees, where we’ll need more supporting testimony. The Safe Passing 3 Foot bill would make clear in Hawaii law that 3 Feet is the minimum safe distance for a motorist to give when overtaking a bicyclist. This basic safety law, which already exists in the majority of states, is a simple way to help ensure that we can all share our roads safely.
We have a Safe Passing 3 Foot bill in both the Senate and the House. SB2529 and HB2215 will do the same thing – make 3 Feet the Law – having the two bills increases the chances we’ll get a bill passed this year.
Both SB2529 and HB2215 are scheduled for hearings this Wednesday. We need testimony on both. Perfect to submit the same testimony for both, just change the bill number. Testimony is due by tomorrow Tuesday February 6th.
