Overview:
Aliamanu, Salt Lake, and Foster Village are a triplet of neighborhoods located in Honolulu that together form a single neighborhood board district. The district is bounded by Salt Lake Boulevard and the H2 Freeway. Shopping is provided by Salt Lake Shopping Center, while major destinations include Honolulu Country Club, Salt Lake District Park, and Aliamanu Military Reservation (Red Hill). The area is mostly residential with a few businesses. Transportation in and out of the area is provided by Salt Lake Boulevard and the H2 Freeway. There is only limited bike infrastructure in the area, with a bike lane on a portion of Salt Lake Boulevard.
What the Oahu Bike Plan calls for:
The Oahu Bike Plan calls for a number of bikeways to be added to the Salt Lake area. Specifically, the bike lane on Salt Lake Boulevard would be expanded to provide access to Aiea, a bike lane would added to Bougainville and Aliamanu Drives to provide access to Red Hill, a lane on Puuloa Road would lead up to Moanalua, and a lane on Ala Lilikoi Street would lead into the mauka side of Salt Lake. The Oahu Bike Plan designates the Salt Lake and Ala Lilikoi Street projects as medium priority. The Puuloa Road and Bougainville/Aliamanu projects are considered low priority.
Projects:
- Ala Lilikoi Street, Nimitz Highway to Salt Lake Elementary School, Lane
- Aliamanu Drive, Salt Lake Boulevard to Moanalua Road, Lane
- Puuloa Road, Salt Lake Boulevard to Mahiole Street, Lane
- Salt Lake Boulevard, Kamehameha Highway to Ala Lilikoi Street, Lane
What’s being done:
There are currently no plans to add bike infrastructure to the Salt Lake area.
