What’s there now:
Wyllie Street runs from Alewa Drive to Nuuanu Avenue. The area the road passes through is mostly residential, though the road does have Maemae Elementary School and a fire station on it. The road has two lanes and a number of small, local roads running off of it. There are currently no bikeways on Wyllie Street.
What the Oahu Bike Plan calls for:
The Oahu Bike Plan calls for Wyllie Street to receive a bike lane. The lane would connect to a planned lane on Liliha Street and a proposed bike route along Pali Highway. The route would allow students at Maemae Elementary to cycle to school and provide a quieter segment for cyclists headed into Nuuanu.
What’s being done:
The city’s Department of Design and Construction is repaving Wyllie Street but has elected not to include the planned infrastructure. No other government agency involved in road work on Oahu currently has plans to implement the bike lanes.
