What’s there now:
Wanaao Road runs from the bottom of Keolu Drive to Kailua Road, connecting the Enchanted Lakes neighborhood with Kailua and Lanikai. The area around Wanaao is almost exclusively residential. The street is generally wide, with enough room to accommodate parking and sidewalks. Speeds are limited to twenty-five miles or less along the road.
What the Oahu Bike Plan calls for:
The Oahu Bike Plan calls for Wanaao Road to become a bike route. The route would run the entirety of Wanaao Road, creating 0.85 miles of bikeway at an estimated cost of $42,545. The route would consist of sharrows. Creating a bike route on Wanaao Road will allow cyclists to travel from Enchanted Lakes to the nearby beaches of Lanikai and Kailua in relative safety. The project will connect to existing bike lanes on Kailua Road and Keolu Drive. The Oahu Bike Plan designates Wanaao Road as a priority one and short-range implementation project. The Mayor’s Advisory Committee on Bicycling has also identified Wanaao Road as a high-priority project.
What’s being done:
There are currently no plans to implement bike infrastructure on Wanaao Road.
