What’s there now:
Waipio Point Access Road runs from Farrington Highway down to Waipio Peninsula Soccer Park. The area around the road is lightly developed, with a few houses occupying its mauka end and Waipio Soccer Park, Ted Makalena Golf Course, and a segment of Pearl Harbor Naval Station occupying the makai end. The road has two lanes total and is lightly trafficked. Just above Ted Makalena Golf Course, Waipio Point Access Road is crossed by the Pearl Harbor Bike Path.
What the Oahu Bike Plan calls for:
The Oahu Bike Plan calls for a bike path to be established next to Waipio Point Access Road. The path would run from the existing Pearl Harbor Bike Path down to the Waipio Soccer Park for a total distance of 0.72 miles. The path would extend the reach of the Pearl Harbor Bike Path and complete the first leg of a planned bike path loop around the Waipio Peninsula. A path here would create an attractive route for recreational riders or those headed to the soccer park. The Oahu Bike Plan designates Waipio Point Access Road as a high priority project and slates it for short-range implementation.
What’s being done:
There are currently no plans to build a bike path on Waipio Point Access Road.
