What’s there now:
Thomas Square is a park located in the Honolulu next to the Neal Blaisdell Center between King and Beretania Streets. The park features bathrooms, a water feature, and fields. The park has been in existence since before the overthrow and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The park is closed to motor vehicles.
What the Oahu Bike Plan calls for:
The Oahu Bike Plan calls for a multi-use path to be built in Thomas Square. The path would run from the Ewa side of the park to the Diamond Head Park, connecting the Young Street and Hotel Street entrances to Thomas Square. A path here would complete the planned Young Street bike route, allowing cyclists to commute down Young Street, through Thomas Square, and then onto Hotel Street and the Civic Center Bike Paths without major interruption. The Oahu Bike Plan designates Thomas Square as a high priority and short-range implementation project.
What’s being done:
There are currently no plans to implement the planned infrastructure in Thomas Square.
