What’s there now:
North Road runs between Fort Weaver Road and Iroquois Avenue, connecting Campbell High School, Pohakea Elementary School, and a residential neighborhood with larger Ewa. Two lanes for its entirety, North Road is crisscrossed with pedestrian crossing along its makai end where the high school and elementary school are. Its middle section is largely residential while its mauka section cuts through Ewa Beach Golf Club and then runs through undeveloped brush. Currently there are no bike facilities on North Road.
What the Oahu Bike Plan calls for:
The Oahu Bike Plan calls for the entirety of North Road to be fitted with a bike lane. This 1.71-mile project costs a projected $196,629. A project here would provide a safe route for students commuting by bicycle to school while calming traffic and improving conditions for pedestrians. It would also connect to planned bikeways on Iroquois Avenue, and Fort Weaver Road.
What’s being done:
The city’s Department of Design and Construction is currently repaving large sections of North Road but elected not to include the planned bike infrastructure in their construction. Currently there are no other agencies planning to install the planned bikeways on North Road.
