What’s there now:
Harding Avenue is a narrow two-lane road that runs from Kapahulu Avenue to Lunawai Street in Kaimuki. Located primarily in a residential area, the street parallels nearby Waialae Avenue. With hilly terrain restricting visibility and numerous pedestrian crossings, speed along the avenue is limited to twenty-five miles per hour. Currently there is no bike infrastructure on Harding Avenue.
What the Oahu Bike Plan calls for:
The Oahu Bike Plan calls for Harding Avenue to be transformed into a bike route from Kapahulu Avenue to 16th Avenue. This project would create 1.31 miles of bikeways and cost an estimated $65,424. The project would provide an alternative route to Waialae for cyclists and connect to planned bike routes on Kapahulu Avenue, 6th Avenue, 10th Avenue, and 16th Avenue. The Oahu Bike Plan lists Harding Avenue as a short-range implementation and high priority project.
What’s being done:
There are currently no plans to implement the planned infrastructure on Harding Avenue.
