What’s there now:
Hahani Street connects Kailua Road to Hamakua Drive. Several major businesses are located along Hahani Street including the planned site of a Target. Traffic is largely headed to the businesses along Hahani Street or in and out of the nearby Enchanted Lake neighborhood. This quarter mile long road features two lanes in each direction but currently has no bike infrastructure.
What the Oahu Bike Plan calls for:
The Bike Plan ultimately suggests a bike lane be installed on Hahani Street at an estimated cost of $22,407. As an interim measure the Plan suggests sharrows be installed. A bike lane here would connect to suggested lanes on Hamakua Drive, a suggested bike route on Kailua Road, and existing bike lanes on Keolu Drive. Hahani Street is an important link in a planned bike corridor leading between Enchanted Lakes and the center of Kailua Town. The Oahu Bike Plan lists Hahani Street as a priority two and short-range implementation project.
What’s being done:
There are currently no plans to install bike infrastructure on Hahani Street. The Department of Design and Construction is planning to repave Hahani Street in the near future but does not plan to include the requested infrastructure.
