What’s there now:
Bougainville Drive runs from Moanalua Shopping Center to Salt Lake Boulevard and then up into a residential neighborhood. The road is four lanes along its middle stretch and two lanes at its ends. Traffic is often heavy along the road and speeding over the twenty-five mile per hour speed limit is not uncommon. Destinations like Radford highschool and Aliamanu Playground sit along Bougainville Drive. Along its makai end, starting at Radford Drive, is a short bike path.
What the Oahu Bike Plan calls for:
The Oahu Bike Plan calls for a 0.6-mile bike lane to be completed from Radford Drive to Salt Lake Boulevard at an estimated cost of $68,783. The planned bike lane would extend the reach of the current bike path on Bougainville Drive and provide a safe route for students headed to the highschool and playground.
What’s being done:
There are currently no plans to install bikeways on Bougainville Drive.
