Ride in Hawaii’s largest cycling event and HBL’s biggest fundraiser!
The 39th Annual Honolulu Century Ride is going to be the best day of the year to ride your bike! Fully supported with aid stations, mechanical help, and HPD presence along the course for added safety.
Enjoy Oahu’s magical views with old and new friends while riding for a cause.
All funds raised support Hawaii Bicycling League’s advocacy and education work to get more people bicycling and make Hawaii’s roads safer for everyone, whether driving, riding or walking. That’s why we say it’s the best day of the year to ride in paradise, because we ride for a cause.
Your ride, your choice! – 25, 50, 75, 100 Miles!
Also 5, 9, 18 Miles – Honolulu Aloha Fun Ride
After riding whatever distance you choose, relax at Kapiolani Park with good music, ono food, and wonderful company.
The ride starts from Kapiolani Park, takes you past Diamond Head just after sunrise, out to Sandy Beach, through the beautiful backroads of Waimanalo, through Kailua and Kaneohe, with the 100 mile turnaround point at Swanzy Beach, and then returning to finish at Kapiolani Park.
The route is mostly flat with a few moderate hills and a prevailing east or north-east wind that usually is blowing at 5-15 miles per hour.
This is a ride, not a race, and roads remain open. Ride at your own pace, all skill levels and ages are welcome. Please ride with aloha.
New to 2019 – One Way Ride – $70 per person additional fee. Enjoy 50 miles one way to Swanzy Beach Park Aid Station, with transportation back to finish area at Kapiolani Park on A/C bus or van with secured bike transport. (limited availability)

Go the Extra Mile! – Raise $100 for Bikes!
As Oahu’s oldest and largest cycling organization, Hawaii Bicycling League is working hard to achieve our mission of “enabling more people to bicycle for health, recreation, and transportation through advocacy, education, and events”.
We advocate for bicycle-friendly, safer street changes, including laws to protect people on bikes and other vulnerable road users, more bikeways and Complete Streets, as well as the policies and funding to make Hawaii a bicycle paradise.
We educate bicyclists and motorists on how to safely share our roads and to ensure anyone that wants to bike is empowered to bike. We educate over 8,000 4th graders on Oahu every year, growing the next generation of cyclists.
We host events both big and small to get people bicycling and bring together a community around the love of cycling.
This wouldn’t be possible without the support of our members, riders, contributors, and volunteers.
Mahalo for being part of the 2019 HCR. All funds raised will go toward HBL’s advocacy and education efforts to make Hawaii’s streets safer for all. If you want to Go the Extra Mile, here is your opportunity.
Create your very own GroupRev fundraiser page in just a few minutes. Once your page is started, simply share with your friends, family, colleagues, the world, and join the movement of creating a safer, cycling paradise for all!
HCR participants are encouraged to corral a bunch of friends, co-workers, or just about anybody ready to ride, decide on a team name, and enter the Iron Okole Challenge!

Group A: Lua‘ole
- If your distance per month is over 300 miles (482 km), average more than 19 mph (30 km/h), and you are used to riding in a group.
- Lua‘ole (pronounced “loo-ah oh-leh”) is a Hawaiian word that translates to superior, unequalled, and second to none.
Group B: ‘Eleu
- If you cover more than 125 miles (201 km) per month, average more than 13mph (20 km/h), and have experience participating in long rides.
- The word ‘eleu (pronounced “eh-leh-ooh”) translates to active, energetic, alert, lively, quick, and nimble.
Group C: Holoholo
- If you average less than 13mph (20km/h) and your goal is to ride slowly while enjoying the scenery.
- Holoholo literally translates to a stroll or to go out for pleasure. The use of the word is used casually in everyday conversation and is synonymous with the slang word, “cruising.”
The Honolulu Century Ride is an untimed ride in which riders roll at their own pace. There are no official finishing places or times, a style called Audax in Europe. This gives riders plenty of freedom to enjoy the sights along the way (and the Aid Stations!). The front pack in the ride, however, has some great cyclists riding at near-professional pace. Due to limited road and turn around options, the longest course is around 96 miles long.
Directional signage will be placed at turns and intersections.
Ride Guide, including course map will be included in rider packets.
Support fellow riders on the course with minor mechanical adjustments and course directions if needed. A special Friendship Ride Leader bib will be provided for you, to identify you as someone who can help. Contact Events@HBL.org to sign up.
If you’re not positive that your bike is in top shape, take it to your friendly local bike store for a quick tune-up. At many shops, no appointment is necessary and the tune-up should take a relatively short amount of time. However, it’s polite to call and ask before showing up with your bike.
Make Sure Your Bike Fits You – The biggest problem facing most cyclists is bike fit. Nearly all cyclists need some sort of adjustment to their bikes in order to achieve maximum performance. And while you may feel comfortable at first, as your body adapts, your bike may need readjustment. An improperly fit bike can cause an uncomfortable riding experience or even injury. If your knees hurt, chances are you are riding an improperly adjusted bike. Take your bike in to your local bike store to have it professionally fitted.
Saturday, 9/28 12:00pm – 2:00pm FREE Bike Maintenance Workshop to get your bike Honolulu Century Ride ready, Pre-Registration Required: Please sign up at hbl.org/workshops
Many local bike shops offer bike rentals. Call early and reserve! The Bike Shop Honolulu offers Specialized road, mountain, and commuter style bikes. Island Triathlon and Bike offers a variety of road bikes. Bikeadelic has the right bike for every distance option. Also check out SpinLister for more options.
Electric Assist Bikes are allowed in the Honolulu Century Ride as long as the bike does require pedal force to operate and the rider agrees to ride at safe and controlled speeds and follow all the customary rider courtesy and safety requirements expected of riders using standard non-assisted bikes.
All participants who register during Early and Regular registration periods receive a dry-fit t-shirt. Late registrants will receive shirts based on available sizes and quantities and can pickup after the ride at the Kapiolani Park finish area.
Waikiki Shell makai lots 1 & 4 are reserved for event operations. Free public parking is available at Waikiki Shell mauka lots 2 & 3 and, along Monsarrat, KCC in Parking Lot A (across Leahi Hospital), Parking Lot B (across Diamond Head Theatre), and Parking Lot C (next to Chapel).
Ride registrations are non-refundable and non-transferable. Forfeited Ride registrations are treated as a donation.
HBL, in its sole discretion, may delay, modify, or cancel the Ride for any reason, including if it believes the conditions on the ride day are unsafe. In the event the Ride is delayed, modified, or cancelled, including but not limited to acts of the elements (including without limitation, wind, rain, hurricane, tsunami), acts of terrorism, fire, public disaster, flood, course conditions, or any other cause beyond the control of HBL, there shall be no refund of the Ride entry fee or any other costs incurred in connection with the Ride.
