Is Your Bike Ready? If you’re not positive that your bike is in top shape, take it to your friendly local bike store for a quick tune-up. Make Sure Your Bike Fits You – The biggest problem facing most cyclists is bike fit. Nearly all cyclists need some sort of adjustment to their bikes in order to achieve maximum performance. So take your bike in to your local bike store to have it professionally fitted.

Bike Rentals: Many local bike shops offer bike rentals. Call early and reserve! The Bike Shop Honolulu offers Specialized road, mountain, and commuter style bikes. Island Triathlon and Bikes offers a variety of road bikes. Also check out SpinLister for more options.

Bike Maintenance Workshop: HBL offers FREE Basic Bike Maintenance courses every month, and will be offering a special workshop at packet pickup on Saturday from 11am-1pm. Learn how to change a flat tire with ease and other basic maintenance skills! Sign up at hbl.org/workshops to attend (all you need to bring is a wheel!).

Friendship Ride Leaders: Support fellow riders on the course with minor mechanical adjustments and course directions if needed. A special Friendship Ride Leader bib will be provided for you, to identify you as someone who can help. Contact Events@HBL.org to sign up.

Ride with Aloha: Please follow all traffic laws, signs, and signals, plus any requests from the HPD special duty officers on course. Please ride single file (this is law in Hawaii) and to the right of the lane. In many situations the shoulder has sand or gravel, please signal to the riders/drivers behind and merge into the travel lane. Hawaii HRS291C-145 allows a cyclist to control the whole lane when it’s too narrow for a car/bike to share the lane as well as to avoid hazards. For more info on the laws, please visit our Bike Laws page. Please report aggressive/dangerous drivers to HPD by calling 911.

Pass with Care: When passing a rider, please make sure it is clear to do so then pass on the left. Be sure to signal visually (for riders/drivers behind) and vocally, “passing on your left” for rider ahead.

Road Conditions: While there are stretches of new pavement, much of the highway along the North Shore is overdue for repaving. Please use caution as there are some bumps, pot holes, and other road hazards along the course. Be aware of traffic and other riders when avoiding hazards. Be safe!

Smile!: Official ride photos will be taken by Project M at different locations along the route. Photos will be available for purchase starting a few days after the ride. You’ll receive an email with links to your best shots!

Finish Area: The ride finish is at Kaiaka Bay Beach Park on the maintenance road. Look for the large archway. Be sure to smile as Project M will be taking photos at the finish as well.

After the Ride: Back at Kaiaka Bay Beach Park, enjoy ‘ono food, music, check out awesome HBL merchandise, and hang with new friends.

Getting to North Shore & Back: Buses are available for $10 (roundtrip) delivering riders and their bikes from Kaka’ako Waterfront Park to the start, and back again. Buses will load at 5:00am and depart at 5:30am sharp. Buses will leave Kaiaka Bay Beach Park at 2:00pm sharp and return to Kaka’ako Waterfront Park. Confirmed bus riders will receive an email with more details and exact pickup location. Bus sign up available while registering for event.

Car Parking: There will be parking available at Kaiaka Bay Beach Park starting at 6am. Please follow signs and instructions of the parking attendants. Do NOT park at the Haleiwa Ali’i Park (only for park users) or at Haleiwa Elementary School.

T-Shirts: All participants who register during Early or Regular registration periods (by March 31, 2019) receive a dry-fit t-shirt at packet pickup. Late registrants will receive shirts based on available sizes and quantities at the finish area after the ride.

Volunteers: We’re looking for volunteers to help before, during, and after the ride. Even if you’re participating, there’s still plenty of ways to lend a hand! Visit our HMC Volunteer Page for more info and to sign up.

Refunds/Cancellations: Ride registrations are non-refundable and non-transferable. Forfeited Ride registrations are treated as a donation. HBL, in its sole discretion, may delay, modify, or cancel the Ride for any reason, including if it believes the conditions on the ride day are unsafe. In the event the Ride is delayed, modified, or cancelled, including but not limited to acts of the elements (including without limitation, wind, rain, hurricane, tsunami), acts of terrorism, fire, public disaster, flood, course conditions, or any other cause beyond the control of HBL, there shall be no refund of the Ride entry fee or any other costs incurred in connection with the Ride. HBL shall make efforts to reschedule, but makes no guarantee.
