FAQ

Thank you, everyone!  Respondents to our online HBL Feedback Survey in January 2016 provided a wealth of excellent information, and while some of the comments addressed long-term concepts & strategies, others resulted in a set of Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) for which we can immediately share the following data.

      • Classic Hawaii Designs near Ala Moana

      • Immortal Spirit Martial Arts Academy in Kaka’ako

    • View all of our current partners at:  HBL.org/ridealohadeals

    • If you are a part of a business, organization, or group and would like to spread the aloha to those on bicycles, please email travis@hbl.org to become a RAD partner!

  • More rides focused on fun & family, rather than long-distance endurance

    • If you’re looking to dust off the cruiser in the garage and go for a shorter ride but still have the “big ride feel,” check out our Aloha Fun Ride! Happening in September in correlation with the Honolulu Century Ride, this ride is the perfect length for those who don’t want to work up too much of a sweat!  For more information, please visit our event page at:  HBL.org/events

  • More BikeEd classes

    • In the first quarter of 2016, BikeEd will be at Maryknoll School, Nimitz Elementary, Mauka Lani Elementary, Kapolei Elementary, Wheeler Elementary, Ho’okele Elementary, Kauluwela Elementary, St. Andrew’s Priory, Aliamanu Elementary, Mid Pacific Institute, Pearl Harbor Elementary, Pearl Highlands Elementary, Palisades Elementary, U.H. Lab Schools, Alvah Scott Elementary, Pearl Harbor Christian Academy, and Manoa Elementary…reaching approximately 1,500 students!

  • Volunteer Schedule for clean-ups and other happenings

    • Please watch your email for monthly volunteer opportunities!

  • Rewards & perks for volunteers

    • Let’s celebrate you! HBL is truly thankful for our wonderful volunteers who work tirelessly behind the scenes to make our organization whole, and for that we want to thank you! We will be having a picnic and lunch dedicated for our volunteers in June, so stay tuned for more information!

  • More advance notice for advocacy (especially public testimony)

    • While this is often limited by the comment invitations from the City & County (whose max advance notice is 6 days) and the State of Hawaii (whose advance notice can be as brief as 2 days), we will definitely try to give you as much time as possible.

  • More advocacy for safer streets & routes, especially in outlying areas

    • We currently have seven local advocacy groups available, and we welcome your input!  HBL.org/advocacy/

  • Personal feedback to C&C government

    • Chris Sayers, C&C Bicycle Coordinator: csayers@honolulu.gov

  • More bike/road safety info & PSAs for the non-biking public (regarding sharrows, cyclist rights & responsibilities, etc.)

    • HBL’s “Walk Bike Drive” traffic safety presentation is now available as a 2-part series on our YouTube channel (youtube.com/user/hawaiibicycling), and it is also currently being developed as an online course for the HBL website (with a formal certificate of completion)

  • More enforcement of traffic laws

    • Please report any dangerous situations to HPD (http://honolulupd.org/contact/index.php), and please also refer those breaking the laws to take a free HBL cycling workshop!

  • More presence on the outer islands

    • If you’re a resident or frequent guest of Maui, please give some love to our Maui Chapter, the Maui Bicycling League! (facebook.com/MauiBicyclingLeague/)

    • If you live on the Big Island, Kauai, Lana’i, or Moloka’i and would like to start up a bicycling league for your island, please contact us at bicycle@hbl.org.

  • Confirmation of membership expiration dates

    • If you’d like a new membership card, or if you’d like an e-mail confirmation of your membership status, please contact us at:   bicycle@hbl.org

  • Regular monthly newsletter
