League Cycling Instructor Certification Seminar 2020

Spring 2020 LCI Certification Seminar

“Took my first HBL Adult Learn to Ride class last Sunday with Malia, and had a great time. Thank you for holding these wonderful workshops and having such supportive people help us learn these valuable skills! Can’t wait to get better on the bike and work towards being able to ride any bike I come across!” -YuhMin

“Three of us septuagenarians joined your bicycle class this morning after having not been on a bicycle for at least 35 years.  Our riding skills had faded with brake pedals. Kevin Landers and Bruce were excellent instructors and made it so fun for us. We really had a ball.  We left with improved riding skills and look forward to taking your more advanced bike lessons. Thanks, too, to the City and County for enabling us to take this class.  All of you are great !” -Sheila

“Thanks for teaching the class.  My son and I learned a lot. In all my years of cycling, I never changed my own tire, so it was great to finally learn.“ -Ryan

“You are awesome—a great communicator, efficient, encouraging, a wealth of information, positive, a passionate advocate for bicyclists. Your attitude is contagious. Thank you so much for the wonderful experience in our journey on two wheels. “ –Anne

Do you want to spread the joy of bicycling to others and help people feel confident on their bicycles? Have a desire to make the streets safer for all users of the road? And all the while, get paid to ride your bike? Become a League Cycling Instructor.

The Hawaii Bicycling League is holding the LCI Seminar in the Spring of 2020 on the island of O‘ahu. If you are hoping to become a LCI you must attend all 23-hours of the seminar (schedule to be announced in August).

Are you interested? Fill out this LCI Seminar Candidate Questionnaire here.

Why become a League Cycling Instructor?

After successfully completing the 23-hour seminar, you will be certified as a League Cycling Instructor. The certification is recognized nationally! This means you are set up to teach safe cycling material to students, be covered by the LAB’s insurance, and go forward into the world with more cycling knowledge & skills, more confidence, and more power to EMPOWER others to ride (safely) – anywhere in the USA!
If you want to hit the ground running with your new certification, HBL will have a range of teaching opportunities waiting for you! As most of you know, HBL offers free cycling workshops (for adults), open to the public. Everything from teaching adults how to ride a bike, to showing them the ropes of road riding, to educating cyclists on bike mechanics (and more). You are encouraged to sign up to teach these 2-hour workshops (with pay of ~$50/workshop) to flex your teaching muscles.

What’s It Gonna Cost?

Those enrolling in the seminar must be current LAB members (an annual fee of $40, which if you want, comes with a magazine subscription to Bicycling magazine!). For those that are taking the seminar and not planning to help teach HBL workshops on O‘ahu, the seminar fee is $300. For those enrolling in the seminar because they will be teaching HBL’s adult cycling workshops (at least 10 workshops in a year), HBL will cover the seminar entry fee for the participant.

“I Am Interested, What Now?”
