A section of the Pearl Harbor Historic Trail will be closed September 20 to October 13 (2017).
- Hekaha Street (near Best Buy) — Aiea Kai Place
We’ve been advised by the City that the closure will be complete and 24-7, with no through access for the duration of the closure.
During the closure, cyclists are advised to detour to Kamehameha Highway. This will require riding on Kamehameha Hwy for 1.0 miles between Hekaha Street and McGrew Point Loop. While slightly out of the way, it’s possible to reduce biking distance on Kamehameha Hwy through accessing the path via Aiea Kai Place at the east end. The City will be placing detour signs to help guide cyclists.

More Details on Closure and Work
The current partial Pearl Harbor Historic Trail closure is Phase II of maintenance work on the path. Maintenance of the trail will include replacing old and faded signs and re-striping the faded markings on the path. Phase I covered the area between Lehua Avenue and Hekaha Street, as well as maintenance work to Neil S. Blaisdell Park.
HBL met with Department of Facilities and Maintenance and Department of Transportation Services to discuss ways to minimize the impact of the closure on bike commuters and other trail users. We pushed for through access to be allowed during at least limited hours, however this couldn’t be accommodated due to the nature of the planned work.
We would like to keep a record of how the closure impacts cyclists. Please email Daniel, email@example.com, with notes on your experience with the detour and how the closure impacted your commute and riding. We will compile these testimonials and submit them to the City.
When Phase II is done, the City will have completed major improvements to a large portion of the Pearl Harbor Historic Trail. HBL is working with Councilmember Elefante, Mayor Caldwell, and City departments for a celebration event and bike ride. Click here for full details and join!
