Zach Manago's Ride in Paradise July 7th and 8th
Make Zach's vision for a bike-friendly Hawaii real! Ride with us on July 7 or 8, 2012.
Zach Manago, a promising HPU student, baseball player, and avid cyclist was killed on December 2010 while on a ride around Oahu. He was riding on the road shoulder with proper equipment and lights when struck by a hit and run driver. Zach was passionate about safer bicycling facilities and wanted to make Hawaii safe so more people could bike. Rudy Pospisil, a Canadian firefighter who bicycles around the world to fight cancer, spearheads this ride and is the lead rider.
Awareness: We'll stop at police stations (TBD) and invite elected representatives to discuss local safety concerns/dangerous areas and how to improve them. HBL's instructional courses on safe cycling on Oahu will be featured as part of our Safety Education & Awareness Program.
Donations: On Facebook or donate on our website.
Entry Fees: There is no entry fee. Pledges/donations are welcome to HBL's bicycle safety education fund started by Zach's family.
More Bicycle Lanes: Read Zach's last major research writing assignment at Hawaii Pacific University. It was written a few weeks before the accident on December 17, 2010. According to his instructor, they had many in-class discussions and Zach probably chose to write on this subject because it was important to him and because he thought genuine progress could be made on the issue.
