[img_assist|nid=858|desc=|link=none|align=left|width=200|height=179]We have some great news--HBL has just received word from the Department of Transportation that the grant that enabled us to deliver our Walk Bike Drive and Commuter Cycling 101 classes to UH Manoa will be extended, allowing us to expand the program to the UH Community College system. If you've been wanting to learn more about safely riding on Hawai'i's roads, you'll soon be able to do so at a convenient location near you.
Walk Bike Drive classes are an hour long, and teach all users of the road safe practices. Commuter Cycling 101 is a 2 hour long course that teaches cyclists of all levels how to ride safely in traffic, and offers hands on bike instruction. Classes are free, open to both students and the general public, and we often offer prizes to attendees, including gift certificates to local bike shops and bike computers.
We're super excited to be broadening the range of the course. Stay tuned for a class schedule near you! Classes are slated to begin January, 2013, and will be offered at Honolulu Community College, Kapiolani Community College, Windward Community College, and Leeward Community College (Pearl City and Waianae). For more information on Walk Bike Drive, check out this video. For more information on Commuter Cycling 101, view our schedule and registration page here. The curriculum is based on classes taught by the League of American Bicyclists, and instructors are League Certified.
Our Mission: Getting more people to ride bicycles for health, recreation, and transportation by making Hawaii's streets safer through advocacy, education, and events since 1975.
